24"x24" acrylic on wood, 2016
Foxes are striking, yet clever and elusive. Since ancient times, they had totem or supernatural symbolism in cultures throughout the world. In Asian legends, mythical foxes acquire the power of shape-shifting, usually appearing in the guise of a woman. Foxes (not unlike women) have been imbued with the supernatural and mysterious, sometimes benevolent and sometimes malicious. In this painting, they are coiled together in a surreal dream-like space, sharing the peaceful silence of their embrace.
All acrylic paintings are on birch plywood panels made in Canada. They are coated with a UV-stabilizing acrylic Polymer Varnish for The painting continues around the 1.5" wide edge of the canvas, so the originals are ready to be hung unframed.
